Adventures: The Russell Cotes Museum

rc28

I'm feeling very homesick at the moment and pinning for the sea in a big way. January has been looooong and I need a seaside trip a.s.a.p! Thinking of home reminded me that I needed to do a post on our summer trip to The Russell Cotes Museum.
We visited in August so the pictures are nice and sunny and will brighten up your Sunday .

It has been one of my favourite places ever since I was a teenager, not much has changed.

You can read all about Sir Russell-Cotes and his Lady here and more about the history of the museum on this timeline.

I can't express how beautiful it is, my pictures do not even touch on the abundance of jaw dropping art and design that is housed there.

Bournemouth itself is a wonderful mix of Victorian, Edwardian and Art Deco architecture that has been left untouched. It is one of the happiest places in the country and houses some of the best beaches in the UK. I heart Bournemouth, can you tell? ;)

Pictures by Craig and myself

I am wearing:

1940's Hawaiian dress: Beyond Retro
Vintage hair flowers: Ebay
Shell ring: Present from my BFF Hannah

Happy Sunday to you all. xx

  1. These pictures show you in your element, Kelly-Marie. You look happy and alive and I hope you get a chance to return again this year. These are some of the best images ever presented on your blog. I can only imagine the ornate splendor that surrounded you. Thank you, dear friend, for this beautiful post card to brighten my Sunday!

    1. Thank you Tom. It's lovely that you thought I looked happy and alive because I often feel that I am only ever truly at ease and happy when I am by the sea. A born water baby I guess, definitely not a city girl.
Thank you for your lovely words as always.

  11. Somehow I've never made it to the Russell Cotes Museum, despite it looking like it would be right up my alley and despite the fact that my aunty lives in Poole so not at all far away! I think I once wondered the gardens with her years and years ago, but didn't go in for some reason! Perhaps it was closed...

Thank you for sharing these lovely photos though. I may have to insist we go next time I visit her down there.

    1. Miss Marie I think it definitely would be up your alley! Small world that your aunty lives in Poole. Have you ever been to Brownsea Island? If not you have to visit there too ( next time you visit your Aunty). x

    2. I've been to Brownsea Island, once upon a time. I have a vague memory of lots of peacocks there - which may be why you're suggesting it! I'm starting to think I should schedule in a summer trip - to the museum, back to Brownsea Island, a paddle in the sea...

    3. Ha ha yeah there are lot's of peacocks! :) Lot's of Red squirrels and giant ants too. Its an amazing place. My Dad works for John Lewis who own the castle on the Island so we alwasy go and have tea there, it's so lovely. I think you should definitely schedule a summer visit, you'll have a lovely time. x

  12. Ok, I'm new to the area and haven't visited the Russell Cotes Museum. I have a vague memory of hearing about it though. What was funny to me was looking through the photos and going to myself "Hey! That looks so much like Bournemouth beach/pier area." To see at the end that I managed to recognize something from my new home base was very nifty. Next time you're in the area, you must venture out to the New Forest and visit the Rhinefield House Hotel. I think you might love it. Such amazing photos you've shared with us and I'm definitely going to put the Russell Cotes Museum on my must see list.
