Here are some scans from my 1930's Will's Cigarettes 'Wild Flower' albums. I have two and they are filled with beautiful cards of different types of British wild flowers. The previous owner must have been a great collector as each of the albums are complete.
Apologies for the poor quality of the pages with the cards, they wouldn't scan so well because of the raised ledge the cards have made.
My favourite part of both albums are the 'flower picking' illustrations that lie inside the front covers. I want to live in them.
I know I have most probably posted this before but it makes me so happy. June brings us so many beautiful blooms, Roses are my favourites so even more reason for me to celebrate this beautiful month.
Right now I am in bed with Flu! Blah! I'm hoping for a swift recovery as the Sun is predicted to shine on Sunday. Fingers crossed so I can actually get outside and see some flowers.
Hope you all have lovely weekends
Kelly-Marie xx
Oh, wishing you a swift recovery for the flu, theres a lot of nasty bugs flying about at the moment..I'm finally coming of the end of mine. A utterly beautiful collection of cards, the illustrations are too lovely, it's really made me want to go for a good stomp and pick a few for the flower press! x x
ReplyDeleteThank you darling, hope you are feeling better too. xx
DeleteAhhh this made me smile. What a lovely post! I'm currently reading 'Alice In Wonderland' for the first time (I have a beautiful vintage copy with beautiful illustrations) I'm really enjoying it - though it is a bit bonkers!
ReplyDeleteI hope you're back to rights soon lovely, and thank you so much for your text. I'm feeling a lot less mopey now x x x
Yay, i'm glad I made you smile. :-) Isn't Alice wonderful, but yeah it is totally bonkers. Have you read through the looking glass? Also bonkers. Your book's illustrations aren't by A.L Bowley are they? I have an old copy and the illustrations are so lovely and unusual it would be amazing if we had the same one. I want to see yours. You'll have to do a post on it. Sending you lots of love xx
DeletePoor you- flu in summer is awful! I love that bit from Alice- I have always wanted to make a costume like the Rose!(kind of like the one Mae West has( http://mae-west.org/old/mw_photos/mw_bell2.JPG ) Get well soon!x

DeleteVintage botany art is a favourite of mine, too. I do a lot of paper crafting and am constantly inspired by yesteryear florals like this in my work.

Thanks Ben! I'm feeling a bit better today so fingers crossed it's on it's way out. Hope you are well too and it looks like you had an amazing time at Disney. x
DeleteThank you lovely. I know I'm so sentimental with all the things the old things I own that's probably why I have far too many old things. :-) xx
ReplyDeleteThese are so gorgeous - I'm rather jealous, would love to have a little reference book like that. Where did you find them?
ReplyDeleteAnd sorry to hear you're poorly. Hope you feel better soon!
Thank you love, I am feeling much better now and thank goodness as I have to go back to work tomorrow. Usually I find most of my treaures down in the New Forest but these actually came into Beyond Retro! They were in the Soho shop when I first started there.
DeleteI just watched the Trooping of the colour and thought of you as it was sad they didn't get to fly the Lancaster.
Hope you have had a lovely weekend. xx
From Beyond Retro, really? I never realised you had such things there!
DeleteI was sad not to see the Lancaster on the weekend too. Though the boy and I stuck our heads out our window as I heard a rumble of planes, and were able to glimpse the Red Arrows and others as an interlude and bonus to our lazy Sunday afternoon. I actually cancelled most weekend plans to do lots of sleeping, to be honest! I wasn't feeling so great either and knew I needed to rest up in order to nip any potential poorliness in the bud. Seems to have worked though! Glad you're feeling better too x
What delightful albums - perfect in fact for lying in bed and flicking through when feeling poorly. Glad to see from your comment above that you're feeling better.
ReplyDeleteI also wanted to say thank you for taking the time to leave such thoughtful comment on my 'Mental Health Awareness' post a while back. It was very much appreciated.
Beautiful, my gorgeous.
