Looking-Glass River

I am wearing:
1920's embroidered Kimono:
The Yard sale of my old school lolly pop lady. True story!
1940's satin nightgown
1930's flower crown
Indian slippers
All from Beyond Retro

Gold and Pearl earrings: Present from Craig's mum
Gold cord around my waist: Present from my Gran

Photo's by Craig

Craig and I escaped the heat and had a little picnic in my new favourite place.
The New River walk, runs the length of Essex road and comes out at Newington Green. I discovered it on a walk home from work and I still can't get over how this beautiful place exist's, tucked away behind London's busy street's.

I have been watching Lord Of The Rings for the first time ever! I KNOW, I can't quite believe it either.
I am of course totally in love, especially with the Elves. When I first saw Galadriel I think I cried a little and don't get me started on Arwen!
The New River walk seems like the kind of place that would be in Middle Earth, I looked out for Treebeard but I think he must have been sleeping. ;)

I am off to The New Forest for the weekend, back for the Jubilee.
I hope you all have a wonderful time.
Kelly-Marie xx

  2. I can't believe you found that kimono at your lollypop lady's yard sale! that's amazing! Your hair is so beautiful here, you could definitely be an elf in LOTR like Liv Tyler! it's hard to believe that gorgeous green area is in London! It looks like the countryside somewhere, looks like a great place for a romantic picnic!

Also, what are your tattoos on your feet?

    1. Emma, I know! My Mum and I rocked up at the yard sale and it was so weird because I literally hand't seen her since primary school but I recognised her straight away. We got so much amazing stuff super cheap because they were selling off their aunts house All the stuff had been in their loft. She was telling me that I had missed out on lots of lothes because a lady had come eally early and brought it all. :( Booo!
My tattoo's are a pair of swallows. xxxx

    2. Oh that's so annoying that you missed stuff! Although I'd say you're pretty happy with the kimono! Why swallows, if you don't mind me asking? I'm thinking about getting a tattoo so anytime I see someone who has one I like to ask them about it.

    3. Of course I don't mind. I have always had a fascination with birds, I think it stems from my surname and living in the New forest. I have always been especially obsessed with swallows, they used to nest in my Grans old house. I collect anything with swallows/ blue birds on and our dining room has a bit of a swallow theme going on now.
I also love the significance that swallows hold. In WW2 sailors would give their sweethearts pins with a pair of swallows on to signify that they would return to them, swallows always mate for life. That's why I got a pair. :)
You can probably tell that I am real romantic and love the significance of things, I wanted to get bird tattoos and swallows seemed like the obvious choice.
I'm planning a new tattoo, it will involve a cresent moon in some way. The moon is something else I have a fascination with, i'm abit moon mad. :)
What are you planning to get? Exciting! xxx

  3. Not do you only have similarities with Galadriel or Arwen but also with an ancient Roman well nymph. So romantic! I'm sure you had a marvellous day!

  14. Beautiful photos. I used to live up in north-east London near the North Circular. The New River up there was a bit of a life-saver - a green walk and water amongst suburban dreariness.
