Bluer than velvet was the night

Lana Del Rey is a lot like Marmite. I know not all of you will be fans but I do love her, and no matter what people may say about her apperance you can not deny that she writes beautiful music.
I personally really like her aesthetic and am even into her new Julia Roberts 'Pretty woman' vibe, I wish I could look that sexy in a Budweiser Tshirt!

The Lynch inspired H&M Blue Velvet video is my new favourite. A little obvious but so beautiful, I want to steal the lady with the Parasol's outfit. Shame they don't sell that in H&M.

Hope you are all enjoying your weekends.
Kelly-Marie xx

  4. I love that shade of blue, especially in velvet and I love Lana Del Rey too, or aspects of her anyway. Her album didn't seem to represent how she is in my imagination really, but the first time I saw her on TV singing Video Games, she was enchanting. I love that David Lynch side of her and I guess the all American girl is part of that too, though it doesn't fit in with my image of her which was sort of mysterious and European, like a Nico or Francoise Hardy, at first sight. xx

  8. I adore this colour on you Kelly-Marie! It's so beautiful. I completely agree about Lana being like marmite, I'm not a huge fan of her music, although it's a great deal better than a lot of "popular" music at the moment and I much prefer her to Florence and the Machine who she seems to get compared to a bit. I've always thought she looked a lot like Julia Roberts, the curly hair really suits her! I admire the whole aesthetic she (or whoever works with her) has created and her videos seem to be a major part of that, at least she has the voice to back it up! Hope you've had a lovely (and not too cold) weekend!

    1. You too darling. I have always wondered if she was self styled or not. She came into Beyond Retro Soho the other week but I was not there!! :-( She brought a few suspect things (a cuddly toy bag included) which lead me to the conclusion that she has a very good stylist. ;-) xxx

  9. Love the turban and the bag! I'm not much of a Lana Del Ray fan but that video is pretty good.

  10. Me and my sister are hardcore Lana fans, her music is heaven to me, she sings about all my favourite things, lipstick, red dresses, mermaids, so hope she tours soon! You look amazing, blue velvet is meant for you, the dress and turban go together perfectly, and those shoes! Lovely as always my dear xxx

  13. Oh, the way that hat & turban match is so gorgeous!! What a lux, lovely shade of blue velvet.

Also I am totally, unapologetically obsessed with LDR. She's fascinating, and I deeply admire how she cultivates such a strong aesthetic and mood, with her cinematic videos and her whole style. She makes me want to move to Hollywood and be more mysterious!

  16. I love your shoes. And the sentence 'Lana Del Rey is a lot like Marmite' is brilliant - I wish I wrote it.

  17. Could your shoes be any more amazing? I love them! My love for 20s will never die and they look so very comfortable.

You're right about Lana. I liked 1-2 songs of her but something about her still bugs me and I can't just get over it. But when people go berserk on her and the people who like her music, it's just beyond stupid and I can't understand all the hate. She's certaintly not the worst thing in that industry and people need to calm down and not get crazy over a few songs or singers.

You look dashing as always, I wish ı could pull off your outfits! xxx

  18. An absolutely fantastic shoot, as always. You really highlight the spirit and equal credit should go to the photographer too.

Lana Del Ray's name keeps cropping up. Gandhi is supposed to have asked "Who is Mr Chaplin?" The 2 links you've posted here are actually quite good and I definitely need to go back to 'Ride' soon and especially its monologue, so she can't be all that bad!

    1. Thanks Rehan, I will also pass on the message to Craig, he will be chuffed.
I'm glad you liked the links. She rather mysterious but from what I gather she is very much inspired by literature and I'm hoping she writes her monologues her self as they are wonderful, she uses them a lot in her video's.

I also wanted to tahnk you for sharng thet statue picture with me on Flickr. It is absolutely beautiful. I'm going to go have a proper look at it over the weekend and read up on it. Thank you so much for sharing it. Hope you have a lovely weekend.

  19. I love that, without fail, whenever I visit your blog I leave feeling like someone has just stoked the fires of my creativity and also altered (in the best kind of way) my sartorial direction. I've been yearning for a fall/winter vintage velvet dress for weeks now, and though I've yet to find one my wallet could get along with, seeing you in this stunning blue ensemble will more than get me through the winter sans a velvet frock of my own (if such is the case), and inspire me to keep hunting even when the warm weather returns once more.
