The Last Dream Of The Great Oak

The oak remained awake through the morning of spring, the noon of summer, and the evening of autumn; its time of rest, its night drew nigh- winter was coming.
Already the storms were singing, "Good-night, good-night." here fell a leaf and there fell a leaf. " We will rock you and lull you. Go to sleep, go to sleep.
We will sing you to sleep and shake you to sleep and it will do your old twigs good; they will crackle with pleasure. Sleep sweetly, sleep sweetly, it is your three- hundred-and-sixty-fifth night.
Correctly speaking, you are but a youngster in the world. Sleep sweetly, the clouds will drop snow upon you, which will be quite a coverlid, warm and sheltering your feet. Sweet sleep to you , and pleasant dreams."
And there stood the oak, stripped of all its leaves, left to rest during the whole long winter, and to dream many dreams of events that had happened in its life, as in the dreams of men.

The Dream Of The Old Oak ~ Hans Anderson

I would highly recommend reading the whole fairytale, such a beautiful and touching story about life, death and passing on... Perfectly timed for Samhain.

The Victorian photo album is available to buy in my shop as part of an Autumn update. Click the photo below to take you straight to my Etsy.

Woods Wail Like Echoes From The Sea

Onion
'I say: Alas ! our fruit hath wooed the sun
Too long; 'tis fallen and floats adown the stream.
Lo, the last clusters! Pluck them every one,
And let us sup with summer; ere the gleam
Of autumn set the year's pent sorrow free,
And the woods wail like echoes from the sea.'
D.G Rossetti.

The above items in the shop were all inspired by Mrs William Rawnsley and the Autumn months from her book 'The New Forest'.  It was one of the first things I found when we first moved back from London.
The Rawnsley's are an important part of the history of the forest and being the book geek that I am, I saw finding this book a sure sign that we were home now.

Mrs Rawnsley beautifuly curated book is a month by month account of the seasons changing, combining her writing and illustrations with wonderful Edwardian poetry like the Rossetti example above.

I have read every month since we moved back and it is fast approaching us being here a year now.
I am so happy and excited to see the Autumn months in this magical place and to see if much has really changed since 1904.

So yes the shop has taken an Autumnal tumble (sorry to all of you in the Southern Hemisphere), but something I know you can all appreciate is the big 'H' word! Keep your eyes peeled for more Halloween themed items arriving this week and click on any of the photo's in this post to visit the shop.

Seeing these photographs last year on Hannah's wonderful blog, started my love affair with Kinfolk (a little late to the party)! Now that Autumn is most definitely creeping it's way in to our lives (and my heart is singing about it) this editorial has been on my mind. You know what else has been on my mind? You lot!

Thank you all so much for your lovely, lovely comments on my last post. At the moment I seem to be in a constant battle with my soul about time spent on the internet... Well, really i'm just trying to spend a lot less time on it!

Pretty tricky when my shop and a lot of my work is based online! Really it all just comes down to prioritising and not living my life through the computer (and my phone)!

What I HAVE missed is reading all the wonderful and inspiring blogs of yours... That's why I started this little part of the internet in the first place, and I really have been missing having time to spend on it. I guess it all just comes down to balance.

What do you all think? How do you manage your time spent online?

The Kinfolk shoot is a wonderful collaboration between Parker Fitzgerald and Amy Merrick. Two people who I am constantly in awe of and inspired by, and yes I wouldn't have found them if it hadn't been for the internet (so okay, let's all hail the internet)!

If you would like to see what I have been up to, then have a little peek into my shop by clicking the above picture, so many new items and plently more where that came from.

The featured items are inspired by that 'back to school' September feeling and my beautiful friend Ava for reminding me of it.
